Partnership - I believe that it is the most overused word in technology today.
True partnerships seldom exist, but all too often technology vendors portray their relationships with clients as partnerships. Only when the client recognizes that there is a partnership does it actually exist, not because the vendor wishes to be considered as a partner.
To achieve a true partnership the vendor needs to be proactive and understand their clients’ goals and objectives while maintaining a corporate culture that is “friendly” and supportive to clients. In a recent conversation, a banker told me that while they liked a vendor’s core processing system, based on the way they are being treated, they will sever the relationship and leave.
Moving on is the only alternative. That comment and similar comments were reflected in my previous blog, The Arrogance of Technology (link below). A partnership can exist in the absence of cutting-edge technology. Technology alone does not create a partnership. Only when the client recognizes that there is a partnership does it actually exist.
